Hardwired smart lighting, heating control and intruder alarms for Nottingham homes — built around structured cabling and dedicated infrastructure rather than fragile consumer Wi-Fi gimmicks that drop every router reboot.
NICEIC approved · Structured cabling · Hardwired backbone · Future-proofed to 10+ years
Smart home and alarm work, done properly, sits on dedicated infrastructure rather than consumer Wi-Fi. We design and install Lutron or Loxone lighting control, Ajax intruder alarm systems, and integrated heating controls (Heatmiser, Loxone, or Honeywell Pro) — all on a structured backbone that doesn't fail when your router reboots or your neighbour's bandwidth spikes.
Typical clients are owners of new builds and substantial refurbishments in West Bridgford, Edwalton, Mapperley Park and Bingham who want lighting, heating, alarm and AV that behaves as one system; landlords with high-end rentals where a stable system is worth the install premium; and self-builders specifying first-fix infrastructure before plaster goes on.
We don't fit consumer-grade Wi-Fi smart switches retrofitted over old wiring. Those work fine for a single room and fail at scale. If you want a whole-house smart system that runs in 10 years' time, you need cabling.
We are called to retrofit smart-Wi-Fi installs every month, usually 18–36 months after they were fitted. The complaints are identical. Lights respond inconsistently. Heating schedules drift. The alarm self-disarms because the bridge has lost the cloud. The voice assistant works for one person and not another. Routine router reboots take a third of the kit offline until it is manually re-added.
The shared cause is consumer-grade Wi-Fi as the backbone. A 4-bed home with 60+ smart endpoints overwhelms domestic mesh networks, and every cloud-dependent device fails when the manufacturer changes their app or sunsets the product (Belkin Wemo, Insteon, Nest Secure, all real recent examples).
The fix is structured cabling, local control, and protocols that don't need the internet. Lutron and Loxone run on dedicated wiring with local processing and work without any internet at all. Ajax intruder alarms are graded under BS EN 50131 with dual-path signalling and continue to operate independently of your home network. That is the infrastructure we install.
We map every light, heating zone, alarm sensor and AV point onto a single drawing. You sign off the brief before any cabling is decided.
Lutron or Loxone control wiring, alarm cabling and structured Cat 6A pulled in parallel during the build phase. Plaster goes on over a finished backbone.
Switches, sensors, panel, controls all installed and terminated to the design. Labelled, tested and identified at every termination.
Lighting scenes set up to your routine, heating schedules to your occupancy, alarm zones to the property layout. Voice assistant integration if requested.
User manual, as-built drawings, manufacturer warranty registrations, optional 12-month support contract for tweaks as you live with it.
Lutron, Loxone and hardwired alarms work locally. Internet outage, app sunset, router reboot — your system carries on.
Standard protocols mean any competent integrator can service the system in 10 years. Not stuck with one app or one company.
Ajax intruder alarms with dual-path signalling, designed to BS EN 50131 Grade 2 or 3.
Flicker-free dimming on every light fitting, scene control, daylight harvesting if specified.
There are two serious smart home systems we install for UK new builds and major refurbs. Lutron is the prestige choice — beautifully engineered, the right answer for clients who want exceptional dimming and the cleanest user experience and don't mind paying for it. Loxone is the all-in-one — single controller running lighting, heating, audio, security, all on Loxone hardware; cost-effective and well-suited to whole-house automation.
Intruder alarm systems are graded under BS EN 50131. Grade 1 is consumer-grade and not insurer-accepted. Grade 2 is the residential standard and what most home insurers expect. Grade 3 is for high-value properties and commercial use. We predominantly specify Ajax for Grade 2 and Grade 3 installs, with dual-path signalling (broadband primary, cellular backup) to professional ARCs (Alarm Receiving Centres).
Cabling has to be right at first fix because plaster goes on top. Lutron and Loxone control wiring is pulled to every switch position, alongside structured Cat 6A to every TV/AV/IT position and to every alarm sensor. A typical 4-bed house first-fixes around 2.5km of structured cabling — pull it once, in the right routes, before the plasterboard goes on.
Smart home pricing scales heavily with scope and protocol choice. Real ranges below — every job is quoted from a brief and a site survey.
| Scope | Typical price (incl. VAT) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-room smart lighting (dimmable) | £950 – £1,800 | 8–12 fittings, scene controller, fitted to existing or new wiring. |
| Whole-house Loxone smart system (3-bed) | £8,500 – £18,000 | Lighting, heating, alarm integration, app + wall control. |
| Whole-house Lutron (4-bed) | £18,000 – £45,000+ | Premium spec, full control package, Lutron HomeWorks. |
| Grade 2 Ajax intruder alarm (3-bed) | £950 – £1,650 | Hub + 6–8 sensors, dual-path signalling, professional ARC monitoring. |
Smart home demand is heaviest in higher-value Nottingham postcodes — The Park, Mapperley Park, West Bridgford and Edwalton — plus substantial refurbs across Bingham, Burton Joyce and Loughborough.
